DESIGN REVIEW SURVEY

KEY DETAILS

My Role: UX Researcher

Timeline: December 15, 2021 - January 12, 2022

Tools: Qualtrics, Excel

PROJECT CONTEXT

After a previous project led to more questions in addition to answers, the project managers and I determined it would be best if we conducted a follow-up survey. This survey was run prior to the holiday break and concluded in the new year.

GOALS

This survey was intended to...

  • Gain final consensus on how to improve a product's designs.

  • Determine the likelihood that this product would truly be useful to our users.

RECRUITING

Participants were recruited through Lexis' dedicated research panel. 71 Attorneys completed the survey.

METHOD & PROCESS

Participants took a 10-minute survey evaluating how useful this product would be to them. They also answered questions about how they felt about the designs and helped us determine how to clear up existing points of confusion.

ANALYSIS & SYNTHESIS

After the survey was closed I downloaded the contents of the survey into a spreadsheet format (via Excel). In Excel I cleaned the raw data and made tabs pertaining to each question in the survey. Within each tab was a pivot table which I used to interpret the data. Below the pivot table, I made charts (for Likert scale questions) and organized the open answers into broader categories. Finding patterns in the open answer questions was the most challenging aspect of the process.

FINDINGS

78% of participants felt that the product would be useful. They also felt it would allow them to work faster and more efficiently. Some of the updated designs helped to solve the confusion and pain points discovered in the previous research. One particular aspect of the designs still contributed to confusion. After the presentation the PM's and designers determined that the survey was successful but that we all had more work to do to make the designs fully intuitive.

REFLECTION & IMPACT

Impact: My research gave stakeholders the information they needed to perfect the designs. My team is very excited about the upcoming release of this product!

Reflection: If I had to go back and fix one aspect of my survey it would be to write one particular question more clearly. One of the questions in my survey was not interpreted by users as I had hoped it would be. Still, I'm proud of the work that I did! It was rewarding to hear how excited my team was when they heard how helpful their product would be.
