GSG WEBSITE NAVIGATION TEST
KEY DETAILS
My Role: UX Researcher
Timeline: September 20, 2024 - October 9, 2024
Tools: Lyssna Tree Testing
PROJECT CONTEXT
Marketing is actively conducting a comprehensive overhaul of Grant Street Group’s website and is in the early stages of content and design development, guided by a working site map. Marketing requested UX review the site map and research its navigability. I focused my research on navigability of the following high impact areas:
-
GSG Current Opportunities
-
Support & Contact
-
Product Information
-
Auctions Portal.
These areas are the most visited sections according to website statistics.
GOALS
The primary goal was to evaluate the intuitiveness of the website’s navigation, particularly in the four main areas of interest, and to identify any potential improvements.
RECRUITING
Participants were recruited through Lyssna's panel.
METHOD & PROCESS
UX conducted a review and Tree Tests using Lyssna on the site navigation. Participant responses were categorized into Pass, Direct Failure, Indirect Failure, Indirect Success, and Direct Success.
ANALYSIS & SYNTHESIS
-
Scenario 1: 88% direct success in finding "Current Opportunities."
-
Scenario 2: 66% direct success in locating "Delinquent Tax" information.
-
Scenario 3: Only 10% direct success in scheduling a demo.
-
Scenario 4: 80% direct success in contacting software support.
-
Scenario 5: 44% direct success in accessing the Auctions Portal, with an indirect success rate of 32%.
FINDINGS
Most areas of the site were intuitive, except for the demonstration request process. Participants struggled particularly with Scenario 3, indicating the need for clearer navigation paths.
IMPACT & REFLECTIONS
The sitemap is generally effective, but improvements are needed for requesting demonstrations. I recommended renaming the "Request Info" item to include the word "Demo" for clarity. Further navigational tests and design reviews are suggested as the website development progresses.
The detailed analysis in the report exceeded the marketing team’s expectations and provided unexpected insights that influenced changes in the website's wording and layout.
